When I contemplate
The bounty and mystery of nature’s gifts
How could I not be in awe
Of all the beauty and richness that surrounds me
And as afternoon’s filtered mellow light
Ever so softly falls
How could I feel anything but peace
Surely the human world
So often jangles my spirit
There seem to be
Road blocks and stop signs
And a host of rules and regulations
About how much and what for
And when and where
But nature never argues in this way
When it is windy
The squall just blows
When clouds too heavy with rain
Can no longer contain it
Then rain falls
Come what may
So maybe we should just
Take more time to rest
And open our hearts and souls
To these lessons and bequests
Centring our consciousness
In deep gratitude
For the preciousness
Of nature’s gifts
All so freely given
