Love is a need
As essential as air
And when it is absent
We stumble like the breathless
Feeling despair
That drags upon on us so heavily
Surely there is a love
We summon from within
But more special is the love we feel
For those souls who are kin
Whose very light and fire draws us towards them
Caressing our skin with goose bumps
Standing hairs on end
As its electric call vibrates
Enlivening the air around us
Like soft kisses of angels
On skin
And when those around us
Who understand not the ways of love
Deny it
Turning upon us eyes of vacancy
What way is there to show
The depths to which
A heart can ache
When faced with the negation
Of the very purpose
For its existence :
Connection
And so we falter
And find ourselves again lost
When the cost of blocked hearts
Forces empathy so far from us
Our hopes then turn to dust
As amongst the ashes we lie
Begging for mercy
To empty blue skies
Hits the core…ughhhh! Not sure anything is more painful.
