It can be difficult to overcome the idea that others are fully responsible for how we feel but if we are pro active we do have opportunities to help our selves feel happier, safer or more loved, by listening to our internal guidance system we can learn.
This is another excerpt from Andrea Matthews book Letting Go of Good. It explains how listening to, trusting and being guided by our internal emotions can help us to be more authentic to our inner Self :
We have been accustomed to thinking that our emotions can only be created in the outside world. “You made me so angry.” “He made me feel so inadequate.” “She makes me so sad.” This language is so common that we do not even realise that we are attributing the power of our own internal messaging system to someone outside of us. That is why this practice is so important. We must begin to find the source of living within ourselves if we are to become genuine.
By praticising this statement, “My emotion is telling me that I….”, we turn more and more to our inner world as the source of our being. …
