Some way along the road
Humility found me crying by the wayside
About those things that cut like a knife
There I was lying bleeding
As the realisation came
There may be a way to be free of this
The possibility of surrender
Loomed a head of me
Like a familiar stranger
Wearing unrecognisable clothes
And those kindnesses of humility
Suddenly offered to thaw
Something within me that had become frozen
With all the hurting and lostness
Of life before
So now when I contemplate
The H.O.W.
Of recovery
Honesty and humility walk hand in hand
Open mindedness
Is a window that opened slowly
After all the storms of life
Blew it firmly closed
Covering it in an opaque film
And willingness is the place I found
When my knees could finally bend no lower
Showing me
There was no other power to trust
But surrender
Surrender is always the way.
