Shadows of leaves

Dance across the floor

Light irradiates the spaces

That darkness wore

Where night had fallen before

Smiling you peer out the window

At a living day

Calling me out of the past

And shadows of memories

I am with you now my love

In the presence

I am present for you now my love

And it makes me sad to know

How it hurt you when

My face was turned away

Focused on my regret and grief and sadness

I wanted you to see me

But was that your task

Wasn’t all this time alone

Necessary for me to know

The twisted confused by ways

Of my own heart and soul?

No one did anything wrong

Even though we hurt each other

Everyone tried their very best

With what they knew

Was it our fault

If over time the shadows grew

Between our souls

And can we now appreciate

That a shadow can only be cast by light

Maybe the light and shadow just dance

And in time and with experience

We see the reason for them both

And realise why we were

So blind
