Deep in the silence nothing is said

But a hundred memories come calling

As grief breaks open

The locked contraction of resistance to this pain

Breaking the thin veneer of forgetting

As you remember how your heat bled

Pain of ages

The dark man who came into your life

And stole her away

The fear it left

So many abandonments and betrayals

Mostly of yourself in the end

Put it away they say

But it dogs you still down these years

In oh so powerful but silent ways

And sometimes it takes years

Of circling round and round the pain

Seeing it remanifest

And trap you again

Poisoning each new chance

Before you turn to dive deep

And embrace your hurting self

Lending her a hand

To feel and contain it all

And find forgiveness

Turning suffering into pain

For isnt this the only way

To step out of the darkness

And into the light again
