Grieving
At times you are all I really know
You are the tide I just feel rising
Pulling on my chest
And taking me so far from home
And all I really feel is that I am being dissolved
As my heart contracts
With a longing for too much I had to suppress
So that now when you come asking
Wanting desiring
Me to surrender to a new life
Beyond this pain
I make you wrong
Because the heat of life becomes too much
And I have to get away from the fire
Fearing I will be burned
But then the world becomes so cold
Without you here
And I question everything
And this is all I know for sure
That there are depths to us that reason
Can never fully countenance
And what we make of things with our minds
Is surely not the whole truth
Because mysteries lie much deeper
Below the surface
Than we could ever know
And just when we think our grief is done
Low and behold
Here comes another wave
Taking us under
Making us fear that death once more is very close
Its breath is warm upon our face
And so we slowly succumb to its embrace
Becoming extinct within its contraction
Pulling us under
Until in time our energy
Resurfaces
Upon another wave
