The longing for love
Never leaves us
The need to be loved
When we are very small
Is so essential
Not only to our wellbeing
But to our entire sense of self
So that when it is lacking
The absence of attention, care and empathy
Leaves the deepest wound
And this wound can become a magnet
That attracts to it
Some of the emptiness it contains
Until the day we turn around
To face the truth
And recognise the source of love now
Needs to come from within us
First of all
But since no man or woman is an island
We also need those who will hold us
Those who will comfort us
Those who will provide a foundation of evolution for us
Until we can grow and gain in strength again
After such a barren time
Of having fallen down
So low
