How we treat ourselves : on sensitivity and taking care of ourselves

How we treat ourselves is probably the most important issue in emotional recovery work and a large part of that involves if we have body trauma (and past emotional trauma leaves imprints in our body) noticing how we relate to our body and most especially do we leave our body behind or split off in some way.  For this is just one of the key aspects of having undergone trauma or lack of respect for our soul in body, the body becomes at times a place too painful to inhabit and so we look for ways to divert or block or numb or deny the truth of what is living in there which feels just too hard to face. We may also forget how to nurture our bodies and self soothe or have never even learned in the first place.

There are also times when it HELPS to divert our attention from inner body symptoms and trauma triggers.  Part of my chronic PTSD condition was that for years coming out of my last serious accident in 2005 being so fixated on inner body sensations that I literally felt I could not move or eat.  I still struggle when I wake up each morning to orient myself in time and space and it can take up to two hours to eat and shower but this is a vast improvement on all of those years I was in almost acute personal isolation and lockdown.

Over time I have learned not to let those attacks keep me fixated in non activity for as long as they used to do.  Instead of being passive I try to take action more now to help myself rather than get pinned in place with is a massive energetic signature for the traumas I endured from a young age and even in utero.

Lately my body is really letting me know the truth of how sensitive it is and how much it can react not only to place and foods but to people and energies as well.  I am aware when I am with others of when harsh energy makes me contract and of how I receive that.  I am going to post up a meditation that I copied out of Kyra Mesich’s book on emotional and empathic sensitivity last week which helps sensitives to work with the energy centre known in yoga as the solar plexus.

The solar plexus is close to our gut and as we know now our guts and brains are intimately connected.  Foods that we eat affect our tummy and play a part in our neurochemical balance and brain health.  For instance I discovered this week that there is a pathway which involves trytophan being converted to serotonin.  We can affect our serotonin balance by eating foods high in tryptophan.   But it is not only the foods we eat which affect our gut.

Our solar plexus is also a powerful receiving station for energies and it is a huge part of the empathic anatomy as well on an energetic level.  There is a reason for the expressions ‘trust your gut instinct’ and “I just knew it in my gut”.  The gut is associated to intuition and we can get intuitive guidance if we are open not only from this energy centre but from others as well such as the third eye in our forehead.  As an empathic intuitive I cannot tell you the amount of times guidance has told me to go here or there or to pick up and read that page in a certain book only to find it has a message for me which is spot on for the day, and each time my doubting reasoning mind kicks into diminish or cuss this thought I am humbled when that negating thought is proved wrong.

I was always a bit wary of the idea of psychic protection but I do believe there are thought forms out there that exist as energies that we as intuitive and empaths can pick up if we are open.  The negative thought form is often planted inside of us in childhood and there is a strong religious and social component to it too, you only need to watch enough television to see how true this is and its interesting to notice who out there is actually thinking for themselves and expressing what they feel to be true as opposed to what they have been told or led to believe is true for them especially as concerns feelings of lack of self value and self worth.

On this point in esoteric astrology Aries which is the sign Mercury planet of communications, mind and perception is placed in during its long retrograde (backwards movement) during late March to mid April, is ruled esoterically by Uranus as well as the spontaneous action planet Mars.  Mars rules both assertion and instinct, Uranus rules the higher mind and intuition as well as our connection to our pure spirit as individuals on a pathway of learning and healing.

Getting to trust our gut instinct, to learn that we can look to relationships (opposing sign to Aries, Libra) but must seek our true guidance and meaning at first from within are all important lessons of the current time and may begin to be highlighted more for us when the New Moon in Aries occurs and especially after retrograde Mercury turns direct on the 15th of this month.

Last week’s Full Moon may have highlighted where we need to be an individual within relationships or groups while respecting the rights and values of others (the Full Moon took place in the relationships/relational sign of Libra last weekend).  This weekend we have the waning square moon in Capricorn which relates to boundaries, physical grounding and authenticity and so now we are being asked to tune in to what is authentically instintually and intuitively right for us at a soul level while exploring the quality of our closest personal relationships to see how they either raise or lower our energy vibration or sense of love, vibrancy and authenticity in response.

Who we surround ourselves with does say a lot about us and even if we find others being negative we don’t necessarily always have to walk away but we can separate ourselves from that energy by refusing to take it on board or noticing when we have or do in order to release it from our body. It is all about flow and awareness of what we are receiving rather than boundaries per se.   This is taking care of ourselves and by tuning in and trusting our soul in body we become more authentic and real.

Now when I realise I am picking up on anyone else’s uncomfortable or painful emotions, it is usually a sign to me that I have slipped a bit and have allowed myself to fall into unhelpful patterns.  There is always a resonance to the empathic emotions that helps me see clearly how what I am feeling is detrimental to my own energy.  Once I realise that and shift as needed, the empathic connection dissipates.

..Remember resonance,  As you raise your vibration, you more easily move away from the heavier, painful energies.  There is no attraction.  And, instead, your balanced energy will find resonance with fellow positive, healthy people.

"The religious naturalist is provisioned with tales of natural emergence that are, to my mind, far more magical than traditional miracles. Emergence is inherent in everything that is alive, allowing our yearning for supernatural miracles to be subsumed by our joy in the countless miracles that surround us." Ursula Goodenough How to describe oneself? People are a mystery and there is so much more to us than just our particular experiences or occupations. I could write down a list of attributes and they still might not paint a complete picture pf Deborah Louise and in any case it would not be the full truth of me. I would say that my purpose here on Wordpress is to express some of my random experiences, thoughts and feelings, to share about my particular journey and explore some subjects dear to my heart, such as emotional recovery, healing and astrology while posting up some of the prose/poems which are an outgrowth of my labours with life, love and relationships. If anything I write touches you I would be so pleased to hear for the purpose of reaching out and expressung ourselves is hopefully to connect with each other and find where our souls meet.
