“Recovering is a process of coming to experience a sense of self.
More precisely, it is a process of learning to sense one’s self,
to attune to one’s subjective physical, psychic,
and social self- experience.
Women’s core sense of shame and our difficulty tolerating painful emotions
has led us to avoid turning our attention inward to an internal sense of things.
In recovering, we “come to our senses”
and learn to trust our selves and experience,
in particular our sense of “enoughness”
